Front Page, by Microsoft is one of the most popular WYSIG (what you see is what you get) web page editors on the market. Like other microsoft products it has many features, and several books to tell how to use it. Or, you can simply follow its own built in tutorials to quickly learn how to begin making your web site. I will only be explaining the basics of how to upload or Publish your web site once you have created it. This information is specific to you if you publish your web to our server using Front Page.
If you choose to use Front Page to build and publish your site, then you will need the Front Page Server Extensions installed in your site. You can easily do this by going into your control panel, and clicking on the Icon that says Front Page. Then click the link to Install the Extensions.
It is Extreemly important that you install the Front Page Extensions before attempting to upload your site. If you don't, it is likely that some or many parts of your site will not work correctly. Like, menus, buttons, and forms.
To set up Front Page, to manage and publish your web on our server, open your Front Page program. Open the Web you want to upload. To do this, click on file, then click on open front page web, then select your web from the list.
Once your Web is open, select publish web from the file menu at the upper left of your window. Front Page will display all current webs on your local PC. Select the one you want to upload, then you will see a dialog box.
NOTE:
If your domain name "is not" answering to your new account on our server yet, then you can try using your web sites IP number that we sent in your welcome e-mail, until you're certain that www.youdomain.com is answering to this account.
Note: Front Page will not always function correctly when attempting to publish a web with an IP number, as opposed to a domain name URL. If this happens, please wait until your domain name is responding to our servers.
Ok, from the dialog box, you will need to select more webs if you haven't uploaded to this account yet. This is where you will enter your domain name, ie; www.yourdomain.com .
Click OK, then you will see a confirmation screen,, click OK again to proceed.
Now you will see a Username and Password prompt. Enter the Username and Password we provided you with in your welcome e-mail, unless you have changed your password in your control panel.
At this point, you should see the web being published to your site. A red stop icon will be there until it is done. When it dissapears, your web should be fully published.
You can verify it by putting your site name into your web browser and having a look. You may need to hit refresh in your browser to bring up changes.
NOTE:
Never use your control panels File Manager, or Password protect directories features to manage your web. It will break your front page web, and it is difficult to repair.
Simply put,, if you use Front Page, there are several things that will not work that our control panel supplies. If your not sure, please ask the techs. Front page is different then regular HTML editors and will not work as planned, if you don't fully administer your site with the Front Page program. FP has its own password protected directories functions, sub webs, and ability to add extra users, as well as forms to e-mail, and guestbooks. Use caution when integrating other items with your Front Page Web.
For your protection and safety of your site, ALWAYS edit your pages and keep a copy on your own PC. This way, if anything ever happens to mess up your web, you can easily upload the site back to its latest version.
